The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest (UVMB) is a prestigious higher education institution with roots dating back to 1787. The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest (UVMB) traces its origins back to 1787, when it was established as part of the Medical Faculty of the University of Pest. During the 19th century, the growing demand for qualified veterinary professionals—capable of both theoretical and practical work—arose alongside the development of national public veterinary services and the establishment of regional veterinary offices. This demand drove significant institutional, educational, and infrastructural developments. By 1851, the university had become an independent educational and research institution. Its current main campus in the heart of Budapest dates back to 1881.
In addition to its long-standing tradition in veterinary medicine, UVMB now offers Bachelor's and Master's programs in Biology and Master's programs in Zoology Research. In recent years, Veterinary Public Health has become a priority area in both education and research, covering topics such as food hygiene, food safety risk analysis, and food waste reduction.
